Senegal Meets Clinton Hill at Le Grand Dakar
On Grand Avenue in Clinton Hill is a wonderful restaurant serving up a cuisine that it is a good bet many people have not have had the pleasure of experiencing, yet. The restaurant is “Le Grand Dakar” and its offering of authentic Senegalese dishes will surprise and please patrons who are clever enough to visit and give it a try.
Africa seems so far away and exotic to Americans, but Le Grand Dakar brings the inspired tastes which developed from the intermixing of cultures right to our doorstep. Not only are the great tastes of Africa showcased, but live music from the heart of African musical traditions adds to the overall experience, while African art is displayed within the walls of Le Grand Dakar.
Pierre Thiam is the Chef and owner of Le Grand Dakar, which he opened in 2006. He was raised in Senegal, spending time in both the cosmopolitan city of Dakar and also in a rustic region in the coastal province of Casamance. Family meals were inspired by elegant Senegalese food as well as traditional French, Vietnamese and Moroccan cuisines.
Clinton Hill is lucky to have such an authentic part of Africa right in the neighborhood. Head on over to 285 Grand Avenue between Clifton Place and Lafayette Avenues, and feel like you’re in deepest, darkest, and tastiest Africa.
